Game One starts with Ollie in net, Seb in defence, Reuben and Harry in midfield and Noah up front.
Monk Fryston takes the kick-off and launches straight into attack, which earns a corner, which is whipped in, brilliantly, by Noah. The ball falls to Harry whose shot comes off the defender and is cleared by Ulleskelf. A quick Ulleskelf break and they score the first goal after just under a minute, having resisted some good initial pressure from the Stags.
Harry scores the equaliser on three minutes. Quick thinking from Noah, taking a quick throw-in before the Ulleskelf defence can get themselves arranged, plays him down into the right-hand side and he cuts inside and slides it past the keeper.
A period of further pressure from the Stags sees a great shot from Noah, which hits the post and it goes out for a dead ball kick.
And then, Oliver is called into action in the MF goal, making a great save with his feet at his near post, from a rasping Ulleskelf shot, which looked destined to nestle in the goal.
A breathless first half draws close to the 7th minute and some strong tackling from Noah on the right wing. He plays a great pass infield to Reuben, and then on to Harry who scores from the edge of the box and makes it 2-1.
Time for a substitution as William comes on in place of Noah.
Ulleskelf chases the equaliser but is thwarted by great defending from Seb, who sees the latest attack out for a corner. MF clear comfortably, with Reuben bringing the ball out of defence, running the ball right up from the left wing, but his shot is blocked, out for a Monk Fryston corner. And, that brings the end of the first half.
The second half starts with a substitution as Jacob replaces Seb in defence, Ulleskelf with the kick-off, but the Stags starting the early stages with intensity in their attack.
Some good passing leads to an opening for William, who pushes forward, but sees his shot blocked.
Then another wave of MF attack, with some good work on the wing from Reuben, before he’s outnumbered by defenders.
Ulleskelf attack, but again can’t get past “the flying Pilkington” in the Stags goal, who dives well to hold onto a shot.
Monk Fryston heads aren’t stooped, though and they push for the equaliser. A good kick from Ollie finds Reuben who takes a shot which needs a great save from the keeper to deny him.
The last action of the half sees Ulleskelf applying the pressure, but Jacob stands firm in defence, clearing well before the attackers can swarm around him.
And that’s the end of the game – the Stags can feel very unfortunate not to have got something from that.
To game two against Welldrake; the team is Jacob in goal, Seb in defence, William and Harry in midfield and Noah in the attack. Monk Fryston to kick off.
The game starts positively for the Stags, with some good attacking from William leading a charge forward. He’s unlucky, it comes to a dead ball kick.
Another good attack from Monk Fryston. The ball is played out from defence by Seb, played the ball forward to Noah and it’s put out for a Monk Fryston corner. There’s sustained pressure from Monk Fryston now and it’s out for another corner which leads to the opening goal. A shot from Harry’s blocked inside the 6-yard box, Reuben can’t get to it and William Thompson scores, following up on his run into the box.
Monk Fryston are then straight onto the attack, biting into the tackle as soon as Welldrake kicked off to earn a corner immediately. The corner from, Monk Fryston is cleared out to the edge of the Welldrake box and Seb flies forward, hitting his shot first time with his trusty left peg, and the ball arrows into the goal.
Reuben takes the centre-kick and shows great initiative, with a clever pass, play the ball forward between two rows of Welldrake defenders, into the path of the onrushing Reeves, whose shot hits the post and bounces across the area.
Second half starts with Jacob in goal, Reuben, Noah and Seb and Ollie.
The half starts with some Welldrake pressure, but the Stags defence holds firm, before some good passing between Noah and Reuben brings it out of defence.
Another Welldrake attack brings some great defending from Seb, who reads a long pass well, before passing the ball in-field to Noah whose long-range thunderbolt of a shot is spilled for a corner by the keeper.
It’s end-to-end stuff as the MF corner comes in from Reuben, but is cleared by Welldrake, whose counter-attack is thwarted by Seb, who has positioned himself well to cope with the danger.
Stags pour forward in search of another goal. A great pass forward from Reuben finds Ollie, who can’t quite get his shot away, but can’t quite get on the end of the ball but Noah’s following up and knocks it in for a goal.
There’s some really good football from Monk Fryston. A clearance up the pitch from Harry, out to the wide right to Ollie, who plays the ball across the box and Reuben knocks it in at the back post. Wonderful, flowing football from the Stags.
The MF dominance continues with a goal from Reuben after a mazy run from the left wing from about the half way line, he slices through the defence and slides it in with his left foot.
Then another goal for Reuben. The corner from Noah and it slips through the defence before being prodded home by the young Shacklady.
A mature display from the team, sees them win comfortably.
